Results of the Third Economic Research Competition for Students and PhD Fellows

The Bank of Russia and the Russian Journal of Money and Finance (RJMF) announced the results of the  Third Economic Research Competition for Students and PhD Fellows. 

Eight papers chosen from 41 papers submitted to the competition formed the shortlist. After the selection procedure, the number of winners has increased as two papers have been awarded the Third Prize.

2022 Prize Winners:

First Prize: Elena Shulyak (HSE) for her paper ‘Macroeconomic Forecasting Using the Data of Social Media’;

Second Prize: Victoria Berestova (Lomonosov Moscow State University, Faculty of Economics) for her paper ‘Impact of the Key Rate Forecast Publications on the Economic Agents Expectations’;

Third Prize: Anastasia Petaykina (RANEPA) for her paper ‘Analysis of the Customer Behavior of the Households in Russia’; Timur Magzhanov (Lomonosov Moscow State University, Faculty of Economics) for his paper ‘The Effect of the Introducing a Three-Level Banking System on Banks’ Economic Indicators in Russia’.

Elena Shulyak, the winner of the Competition, will be invited to give a paper at the Bank of Russia and NES Research Workshop held in Moscow on 5 July 2022. Victoria Berestova, Anastasia Petaykina, and Timur Magzhanov (the second and third prize winners) will be invited to participate in the Workshop.  

The Competition jury have decided to award Margarita Lyakhnova (Novosibirsk State University, author or a paper ‘DSGE Modelling of the Russian Economy with Regard for Heterogeneous Adaptive Learning of Economic Agents’) a special diploma – ‘For Development of Macroeconomic Models of General Equilibrium’ – from the Bank of Russia and the Russian Journal of Money and Finance. 

The jury has noted the high quality of other papers from the shortlist:

  • Ekaterina Vasilishina (Lomonosov Moscow State University, Faculty of Economics) for her paper ‘Inflation Forecasting with Regard for Pandemic Shocks’;
  • Valeria Zvereva (HSE) for her paper ‘Impact of the Inequality Rate on the Bank of Russia Monetary Policy Pass-Through Mechanism’;
  • Marina Kharitonova (Lomonosov Moscow State University, Faculty of Economics) for her paper ‘Accessing the Impact of Monetary Shocks in Large Open Economies on the Main Macroeconomic Indicators in Russia’.

The winners’ papers and those from the shortlist, with the approval of the authors, will be considered for publication in the RJMF after necessary revision to address the format of a research paper.
