Results of the Second Economic Research Competition for Students and PhD Fellows

The Bank of Russia and the Russian Journal of Money and Finance announce the results of the Second Economic Research Competition for Students and PhD Fellows.

An independent co-editors jury has selected three best papers from a shortlist formed by the economists of the Bank of Russia from 55 papers submitted to the competition. 

Prize Winners: 

First Prize: Filipp Prokopev (HSE/NES Programme in Economics) for his paper ‘Balance Sheet Channel of Monetary Policy: Evidence from Credit Spreads of Russian Firms’.

Second Prize: Victor Postonogov (NES) for his paper ‘Analysis of the Role of Commodity Terms of Trade News Shocks for Emerging Economies Business Cycle: Bayesian Inference on the SVMA Data Representation’.

Third Prize: Sofya Kolesnik (Lomonosov Moscow State University) for her paper ‘Modelling the Consequences of Unconventional Monetary Policy Measures in the Conditions of a Heterogeneous Composition of a Monetary Union’.

The competition first-prize winner, Filipp Prokopev, will be invited to present his paper at the international online workshop of the Bank of Russia and NES. The second- and third-prize winners, Victor Postonogov and Sofya Kolesnik, will be given the floor to present their papers at the Bank of Russia research workshops

The jury has noted the high quality of other papers from the shortlist:

  • Alexander Ermilov (HSE, International College of Economics and Finance), ‘Strategic Trading with Uncertain Level of Competition’;

  • Alexey Kipriyanov (HSE, International College of Economics and Finance), ‘Comparison of Models for Growth-at-Risk Forecasting’;

  • Elena Ledenyova (Lomonosov Moscow State University), ‘The Impact of Monetary Policy Transparency on the Effectiveness of Inflation Targeting’;

  • Timur Magzhanov (Lomonosov Moscow State University), ‘Econometric Estimation of Inflation Costs in Russia’;

  • Dmitry Petrov (NES), ‘Introduction of Evening Trading Session on the Moscow Exchange, a Case Study’;

  • Yulia Poltaranina (Tomsk State University), ‘Estimation of the Activity of Stock Markets Traded in Russian On-Exchange Trading’;

  • Anastasia Yaschenko (HSE), ‘Manipulation Detection in the Bitcoin Market’.

All the winners' papers and other papers from  the short-list, which are the most relevant to the scope and format of the Russian Journal of Money and Finance, will be considered for publication after necessary revision to address the format of a research paper. 

All the participants from the short-list will receive commemorable certificates from the Bank of Russia and the Russian Journal of Money and Finance. The information on the Award Ceremony will be announced later.
